My parents and brother came out on Friday and stayed till Saturday to help us with some projects (and do a little hunting :-). It was really nice to see them without all the craziness of pouring the concrete two Fridays ago.

Saturday was the opener for the Duck Season. Jake was not really able to go hunting during early Goose Season so he really wanted to hunt on Saturday. Jason came out to go hunting with him and got his first goose! They said there was lots and lots of geese but most of them got spooked when they shot the two that they got. In the house we heard the gun shots and then geese honking like crazy as they flew over the house.

And of course I had to make fresh carmel rolls for when the hungry hunters came home :-). It was a tradition in college with Josh and Christine to make a pan of carmel rolls for after morning duck hunting.
While Jason was at our place we put him to work digging dirt, replacing a window and helping Jake with insulation and aluminum. Dad helped Jake on Friday before supper doing those same things. They were able to get the whole back side of the house done before supper (which ended up being a late one).

Go Bison!!
Jake and I (with Addy of course) went to a party Saturday night at our neighbors. It was a "harvest" party so everyone was supposed to bring a dish with food from their harvest. They had the Bison vs. Gophers game on a TV outside for everyone to watch. Man are our neighbors Bison fans! It was so much fun to watch the game with a group like that getting very excited over the game happenings. It was even more exciting that we beat the Gophers! Addy was having a blast. Even though she had no afternoon nap she was happy pretty much the whole night. We were sitting in the back row on a hill that sloped slightly up. She was all bundled up in a jacket and winter hat. Her head would bob as she raced up and down the hill back and forth to us (even after it got dark). She would face plant every once in a while as she was crawling down the hill to us. But she would keep on going without a whimper. And of course she was squealing/talking so everyone could hear.....she was dubbed by everyone as the cheerleader for the game. She was not shy, she would go up to people sitting in their chair and "visit" them on her adventures up and down the hill. Needless to say, when we got home (just after 9pm) she nursed and zonked out.....
Addy passed out after playing VERY hard. I was able to walk all the way up the stairs and put her down in her crib without her waking up. That hasn't happened since she was a couple months old.
Addy had her first small glass of cows milk last night. She really liked it and was so proud to be a "big" girl drinking out of a glass. She spilt some all over herself (mostly mom's fault) but a majority of it got down into her tummy.

Canning....
The canning is finally slowing down (for a day or two ;-). after getting most of the tomato stuff done. I am happy to say that the roaster for making sauce is leaving my kitchen until next year! On Sunday we finished the last of the sauce. The totals were: 52 pints of pizza sauce and 37 quarts of spaghetti. I decided that was way enough for us. I still need to do a little more stewed tomatoes and try making some salsa (for the first time). That will have to wait for a week because all the tomatoes we picked last Thursday (2 bushels) were sold to a lady at our church. And my mom took most of the tomatoes we picked this weekend. The ones that she left were quit green so will need a couple days to ripen (which is okay since my house could use a cleaning :-). We still have bushels and bushels out on the vines (way more then we need). We are contemplating trying farmers market this weekend, as we were informed that there was no tomatoes there last week.
Early last week we canned two boxes of pears from the store. We got 15 jars.....with one not sealing. I swear we have the worst luck with fruit! We have been hot water bathing instead of steam canning (which was going great). During one of the hot water bath sessions we heard a sound like a bomb (unlike the "thud" we would hear when a jar blew up in the steam canner). The ring and lid had blown completely off the jar, leaving the jar and fruit untouched. We put a new hot lid and ring on, tipped it upside down on a towel and it sealed! The one that didn't seal had lost a lot of liquid, I think that is why it didn't seal. We still have a box or so of pears from our tree to can but they need some ripening time first.
