The Big Duck Hunt

This past week/weekend some of Jake's family came to our place for a long duck hunting weekend. Josh and Christine got here Wednesday night and Grandpa, Grandma and Kristina arrived Thursday afternoon. It was a good, tiring, mostly successful weekend/hunt. They went out every morning and evening, sometimes even in the afternoon. We were all exhausted because of staying up late and then getting up early every morning (the hunters getting up the earliest). They shot a lot of shells, wounded many, lost some that were killed and brought back a fair amount. The total for the weekend was 21 brought back to eat or mount (Jake shooting 11 of them :-). Jake really has been "on" this duck season....most of his shots have been very accurate.

Thursday morning....more ducks.

Friday morning.....they had come back in for food but then informed us there were lots of geese in the field next to our house. They went into the field "stalking" them. This is them coming back with nothing. Oh well, we had enough duck as it was.

Friday morning.......the best hunt of the weekend. They all got at least one. Kristina, Grandpa, Josh with John and Jake with Addy.

Katie and Stacie came out on Saturday to visit. It was really nice to see them. We had not seen Stacie for a very long time.

Play time! Our living room was cluttered with toys pretty much the whole weekend. Johnny was really good about helping pick up the toys.

Saturday night....3 more! That night we had duck wrapped in bacon on the grill. It was very delicious.

Addy opening up her birthday present from Grandpa and Grandma. They had given her the gift before her birthday but we thought we would wait for her to open it until they came. She got a princess/prince Little People carriage, two books and a cute outfit.

Now that the weekend is over, everyone gone and the house cleaned it is time for us to get back to our regular routine. Addy wass feeling attention deprived yesterday and would not let me get anything done. I sure hope things go back to normal soon! This week we plan on finishing up the tomatoes (yes we STILL have tomatoes), finish applesauce, freeze the carrots and finish the tilling.
